Although I've worked as a counsellor for nearly twenty years this is my first attempt at creating a web page. So, perhaps a bit like you, I'm feeling my way to creating something which will be helpful. To this end, I'll set it out under these headings - "Training and experience", 'My working practice' and "Making an appointment'. Training and experience In my working life I've had a variety of experience from serving with the Marines to working with young people as a youth worker. My professional experience has been gained in private practice counselling adults, whilst in the field of education I've counselled children and young people and sometimes I've seen all of them together, as when a family wishes to resolve an issue. I took what was a beginning step in qualifying for this work in 1981 when I attended Plymouth Polytechnic for a year long certificate course. The succeeding Diploma from Reading University, the 'Masters' gained at Keele University and other courses, added theoretical and experiential understanding to my practice as counsellor. My working practice What I bring to that practice is my continuing engagement with developing my understanding of the world and how I live in it. I'm curious about how as human beings we think about ourselves, how we come to value ourselves emotionally and what may influence us in that valuing. I work within a humanistic framework, seeking how best I may form a working relationship with you so as to enable you to understand how you may live your life more fully. As a Registered Practitioner and Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy I observe the Association's ethical guidelines. Making an appointment From my own experience I know how much courage and despair it may take to begin to think about making an appointment. As well as whatever may be troubling you, careful consideration needs to be given to how much energy, time and money, you wish to use in exploring this issue.
